Cooking conversion questions
How many tablespoons are in a cup?
16 tablespoons in one US cup, so a quarter cup is 4 tablespoons and a third of a cup is 5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon.
Why does my measuring cup say 240 mL?
US nutrition labels use a rounded cup of exactly 240 mL (21 CFR 101.9), and many measuring cups follow it. The customary cup of 8 US fluid ounces is 236.588 mL. The 1.4% gap does not matter in a recipe.
Can I convert cups to grams directly?
Not with one number. A cup of all-purpose flour weighs 125 g and a cup of granulated sugar 200 g in USDA data. Use the cups to grams converter and choose the ingredient.
