Weight conversion questions

How many pounds are in a stone?

A stone is 14 pounds, or 6.35029318 kg. It is used for body weight in the UK and Ireland.

What is the difference between a ton and a tonne?

A metric ton (tonne) is 1,000 kg. A US short ton is 2,000 lb, or 907.18474 kg, so the tonne is about 10% heavier.

Is weight the same as mass?

In physics, no: mass is the amount of matter and weight is a force. Kilograms, pounds and ounces are units of mass, and everyday “weight” on a scale is reported in them.
