1 degree Celsius =
33.8°F
Formula: °F = °C × 1.8 + 32
Show the steps
- Multiply by 1.8: 1 × 1.8 = 1.8
- Add 32: 1.8 + 32 = 33.8 °F
Definitions used: t/°C = T/K − 273.15; t/°C = (t/°F − 32) / 1.8.

How each temperature unit is defined
These are the definitions the converter uses, as written in the source next to each one. Nothing is rounded before the calculation.
| Unit | Definition | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Degree Celsius (°C) | t/°C = T/K − 273.15 | °C |
| Degree Fahrenheit (°F) | t/°C = (t/°F − 32) / 1.8 | °F |
| Kelvin (K) | T/K = t/°C + 273.15 | K |
Temperature conversion questions
Why is temperature not a simple multiplication?
Because the scales start at different zeros. 0 °C is 32 °F and 273.15 K, so you must shift the number as well as scale it.
What is absolute zero in each scale?
Absolute zero is 0 K, which is −273.15 °C and −459.67 °F.
Is it “degrees Kelvin”?
No. The unit is the kelvin, symbol K, without the word degree or the ° sign: water freezes at 273.15 K.
